Bundesliga Matchday 2 Preview

It’s time for another Bundesliga matchday and in this article, we are here to preview this week’s fixtures that are coming up in the Bundesliga. We hope you enjoy this article and if you did then be sure to follow us on Twitter.

The Friday night game this weekend is Hannover 96 v Borussia Dortmund at the HDI Arena. On the opening day, Hannover managed a 1-1 draw away at Werder Bremen, which isn’t a too shabby result for the first matchday. Hannover actually won this fixture last season 4-2 in what was a spectacular game for Hannover. Borussia Dortmund will be buzzing with confidence having beaten RB Leipzig last weekend 4-1 at Signal Iduna Park meaning that they currently sit pretty at the top of the table. I don’t think this will be an easy game for Dortmund and I expect Hannover to be a good challenge but I think Dortmund will win this game 2-1 to really kickstart their campaign under Lucien Favre.

Hoffenheim were unfortunate not to take a point from the Allianz Arena last weekend and will be looking to get back on track with 3 points in this fixture. I am backing Hoffenheim to take the 3 points from this fixture as they do have a really good home record and that puts them in good stead against Freiburg. Freiburg set back an early setback in their first game of the season last weekend as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt at home. I thought Freiburg were unfortunate not to score a goal as Nils Petersen missed a sitter which he would have definitely scored last season. For this game, I predict a steady 2-0 win for Hoffenheim.

Nürnberg suffered a 1-0 defeat to Hertha Berlin at the Olympiastadion and they Nürnberg will be eager to get their first points on the board on their return to the top flight. Mainz, on the other hand, had a very good start to the season with a 1-0 win over Stuttgart at home, meaning that Mainz will have a good amount of confidence heading into this one. If Nürnberg wants to have any chance of staying up this season then they may have to rely on their home form to do bits for them. For this game, I am going to predict a 1-1 draw as I think they will both cancel each other out.

Augsburg beat Fortuna Düsseldorf on the opening day of the season 2-1. As mentioned in my previous matchday preview I said that I can never predict Augsburg games. It’s just something that has haunted me since I started trying to bet on Bundesliga games. But both sides will be looking to making it 2 from 2 this weekend and there is a good chance we could be seeing Augsburg at the top of the table after this matchday if they do win. Mönchengladbach cruised to their win against Leverkusen last weekend and they could be a force to powerful for Augsburg this weekend. It was a good matchday for Jonas Hofmann who scored the penalty to put Gladbach 1-0 up last weekend. For this game I predict that that Gladbach will win 2-1.

Frankfurt Matchday 1

Eintracht Frankfurt got off to the perfect start following the departure of Niko Kovac with a 2-0 away at Freiburg which will have settled some pre season nerves for the players and the fans too. It will be interesting to see how Frankfurt get on against Bremen in this fixture as this could really show if Frankfurt are going to be up for the crack of reaching the top half of the table again. Bremen, on the other hand, will be hoping for more out of Max Kruse in this fixture as he put in a disappointing performance in their last game and if Bremen want to get anything out of this game he will need to be in better form. For this game, I think Frankfurt will win 1-0.

Bayer Leverkusen will have hoped for a better start than they got last weekend after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to the hands of Borussia Mönchengladbach. So Leverkusen will definitely be looking to get 3 points in this fixture to avoid being left behind by their rivals in the league. Leverkusen was very poor against Gladbach and they’ll need to seriously up their game against Wolfsburg to come away with 3 points. However, Wolfsburg pulled off the more surprising results of matchday 1 by beating Schalke 2-1 at the Volkswagen Arena. So this won’t be easy for Leverkusen but I think a 2-1 win for Leverkusen will be just the ticket to giving them 3 points.

Bayern Matchday 1

Many people said that Bayern Munich was lucky to find themselves on the winning side last Friday night. You can see why with a late retaken penalty in the 82nd minute being the major difference between the two sides. Stuttgart comes into this game having lost their opening game away at Mainz and they’ll be looking to rediscover the home form that took them to 7th place in the league table last season. However this will be a difficult task for them, it is worth noting that Stuttgart did beat Bayern Munich 4-1 at the Allianz Arena at the end of last season and whether this will stick in the Bayern players minds may play a large part in the result of the game. I predict a lively 2-2 draw in this game.

RB Leipzig currently sits at the bottom of the league to the delight of many Bundesliga fans. Unfortunately, there are still 33 more games to be played in the season. If RB Leipzig were to choose a game that they wanted to boost their confidence then Düsseldorf would probably be on top of the list following their 4-1 defeat at Dortmund last week. With no disrespect to Düsseldorf I do think that if they get their game plan right then this could be a very interesting game, especially with RB Leipzig in Europa League action Thursday night. For this game, I will go for a 3-1 Leipzig win.

Similar to the Leverkusen v Wolfsburg game Schalke suffered defeat on the opening day whereas Hertha didn’t. FC Schalke 04 were a force to be reckoned with at home last season which will make the trip for Hertha Berlin a very difficult one. Schalke were narrowly beaten by Wolfsburg last weekend and will be looking to make amends very quickly. I think this will be a great chance to get their first win of the season in front of the home crowd. Hertha Berlin took 3 points from Nürnberg last week at the Olympiastadion and they’re not too strong away from home in previous seasons so I think this could be a routine win for Schalke to win in this fixture. 2-0 to Schalke.
